A Brief History of Our Club
The Woman’s Club of Colorado Springs was formed in 1902. There were one hundred members at the first meeting! These dedicated and ambitious women struggled with the issues of suffrage and entry into professional, business and community leadership. Education and community involvement were the cornerstones on which our club was founded and has prospered.
In 2002, we examined the aims and work of the women who had gone before us and the tools we had to make a lasting difference in our community. We resolved to continue to provide financial and volunteer support to local nonprofit organizations. Our fundraising and volunteer activities support many programs in this region.
In addition, we proposed a plan to equip young women to be effective and productive community members. We gifted our clubhouse to Colorado College iin October, 2002, and established The Woman’s Club of Colorado Springs Scholarship Fund. This fund supports women from Colorado Springs (or Colorado in general) who have shown a commitment to community service. This year, three young women each received scholarships to Colorado College in the amount of $10,000.
